Lady Penelope was minding her own business when this guy who thought that he was funny and hilarious tried to make jokes about her. He tended to use that as a pickup line but it did not work with her. She did not like anyone making fun of her and this guy had to pay for what he did. That is why the mistress trampled him and made him cry.
